Dear Friends of Savary Island,

The Fire Hall filled up quickly for the Bylaw Hearing  on Sunday May 23.  Extra chairs were brought in, until there was standing room only.  Approximately ninety people attended.   Eighteen individuals spoke at the Hearing, of these thirteen supported the bylaw and five opposed.  Of the two community organizations represented at the Hearing;  the newly registered Association of the SIC registered that they did not object to the Bylaw. SILT endorsed the Bylaw. 

The Hearing was over in less than ninety minutes, a record for Savary community meetings.   Of the sixty-five  written submissions sent to the PRRD by the Friday deadline, sixty supported the bylaw and five were opposed.  The Bylaw will now go to the Planning Committee and from there to the Regional Board. 

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to act for the protection of this rare and fragile environment.                                                                                                                                          

We believe that the best possible outcome for this property would be to protect it in its entirety as an Ecological Reserve now and forever.
